The Republic of Croatia is a country in Southern Europe. The country shares a maritime border with Italy to the west and southwest and borders Hungary to the northeast, Slovenia to the northwest, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the southeast.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia were the parts of Yugoslavia, a country created on December 1, 1918 and renamed in 1963 as the Social Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. On June 25, 1991, Croatia declared its independence.
Ivo Josipović, 55, is the incumbent president of Croatia. She assumed office on February 19, 2010.
