Lucille “Luci” Pieper Gwin was a nurse and a painter born in Brenham, Texas, United States. After graduating high school in Brenham, she moved to Galveston, Texas where she was accepted into the cadet-nursing core.
During World War II, Gwin did her training at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. After obtaining her license as a registered nurse, she became the head nurse in the surgical unit at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.
