Meet Jeff Horn, the third junior to defeat Manny Pacquiao

Jeff Horn

Jeff “The Hornet” Horn is actually Jeff Horn Jr. He is the eighth boxer to defeat Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao in a professional fight.

Among the fighters who gave Pacquiao his eight losses, three are juniors. The first one is Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley Jr., 33, and the second one is Floyd Mayweather Jr., 40.

Bradley defeated Pacquiao on June 9, 2012 via split decision, making the former still an undefeated fighter then. They had their first rematch on April 12, 2014 and their second rematch on April 9, 2016, both of which were won by Pacquiao.

Pacquiao fought Mayweather on May 2, 2015. The latter won via unanimous decision.

Mayweather’s father was a professional boxer, as well. Floyd Mayweather Sr., 64, who fought at welterweight during the 1970s and the 1980s, is now a boxing trainer.

On the other hand, Bradley’s father was not into boxing. Timothy Bradley Sr., 63, was into baseball and basketball and was hesitant to allow his son to enroll him in a gym but eventually granted his son’s wishes.

As for Horn, he does not really add Jr. in his full name as a professional boxer. His father, Jeff Horn Sr., 59, works as a builder.

The trainer of Horn Jr. is Glenn Rushton, 59. During his student’s fight against Pacquiao at “Battle at Brisbane,” Rushton’s corner team included Stephen Edwards, Adam Copland and Ben Horn, 27, Jeff’s younger brother.

Beating Pacquiao made Jeff the new WBO welterweight champion. The Australian boxer’s current record is 17 wins, 0 loss and 1 draw.

In 2012, Jeff represented Australian in the London Olympics. He defeated Gilbert Choombe of Zambia and Abderazzak Houya of Tunisia but lost to Denys Berinchyk of Ukraine in the quarterfinals.

Jeff graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Education degree. He used to work as a teacher at Pallara State School and at Brisbane State High School.

Aside from boxing, Jeff also loves to play poker, Monopoly and a role-playing board game called Settlers of Catan. He has a dog named Lexie.

After losing to Jeff, Pacquiao now has 59 wins, 7 losses and 2 draws. Aside from Horn Jr., Mayweather Jr. and Bradley Jr., the other fighters who defeated the Filipino boxing legend were Rustico Torrecampo, Medgoen Singsurat, Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez.
