Baron Geisler is one of those who still consider Manny Pacquiao a champion despite the recent loss to the new WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn. However, the award-winning Filipino actor seems to agree with those who think the boxing legend should hang up his gloves already.
“For me, Manny will forever be the people’s champ,” Geisler said in a statement exclusively obtained by Conan Daily. “But with his straight losses from his recent fights, I think now, he should just concentrate on being the country’s senator by serving the Filipino people.”
“How I wish (Pacquiao retired already),” Geisler continued. “He should’ve stopped when he was in his prime as an eight-division boxing world champ. He has already proven how much of a great boxer he already is.”
Geisler was referring to Pacquiao’s victory over Antonio Margarito in November 2013. It made the Filipino boxer the first and still the only boxer to win world titles in eight different weight divisions namely flyweight, featherweight, super featherweight, junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight and super welterweight.
This phenomenal feat did not stop Pacquiao from fighting. In April 2016, he defeated Timothy Bradley Jr. for the second time and expressed his desire to retire as he was running for a seat in the Philippine senate then.
In June 2016, Pacquiao was elected as a senator. In November 2016, he snatched Jessie Vargas’s WBO welterweight champion title, which is now held by Horn.
Once Pacquiao retires from boxing, he has an array of things to do aside from politics as he is also into basketball, singing, hosting and acting. In 2012, it was confirmed that he was making his Hollywood debut in an action film titled “Brass Knuckles” directed by Erick Geisler, who is not related to Baron.
As for Baron, he also is making a comeback after going on hiatus as he recently reunited with “Ma’ Rosa” director Brillante Mendoza, the first and still the only Filipino filmmaker to win Cannes Film Festival Best Director. The actor will play an interesting character in the director’s “AMO,” a TV series based on real events surrounding the illegal drug trade in the Philippines.
Along with Derek Ramsay and Allen Dizon, the main cast of “AMO” includes Felix Roco and Vince Rillon, who both starred in “Ma’ Rosa” in 2016. Baron also starred in the award-winning film as a cop.
“AMO” will premiere on TV5 in August. Watch the trailer here.
