Viva Films is launching yet another action star in the film “Double Barrel.” He is AJ Muhlach, half-brother of Aga Muhlach and cousin of Niño Muhlach.
AJ was one of the eight members of the Filipino boy band under the P-Pop label of Viva Records. As a film actor, he made his debut in 2014 by playing Ian Del Rosario in the teen romantic film “Diary ng Panget” starring Nadine Lustre and James Reid.
After “Diary ng Panget,” AJ starred in three more teen romantic films with Lustre and Reid namely “Talk Back and You’re Dead,” “Never Talk Back to a Gangster” and “Para sa Hopeless Romantic.” In 2015, AJ starred in the horror film “Chain Mall” and in the biopic “Felix Manalo.”
“Double Barrel” marks AJ’s first action film role. Directed by master director Toto Natividad, the film also stars Phoebe Walker as AJ’s leading lady. AJ and Walker will play a husband and wife who are forced by poverty to work as hired killers.
Walker starred in Erik Matti’s horror film “Seklusiyon” in 2016. The role earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
On the last day of filming of “Double Barrel,” I interviewed AJ and Walker separately. The two both mentioned that working with a master director like Natividad was very smooth.
After “Double Barrel,” fans of AJ can expect to see more of him in action films. He told me that he is set to star in a horror-action series with Walker and in Matti’s upcoming action film “Buy Bust” with Anne Curtis and the reigning ONE heavyweight champion Brandon Vera.
Joining AJ and Walker in the cast of “Double Barrel” are Jeric Raval, Ali Khatibi, Dindo Arroyo and Oliver Aquino. On the small screen, Natividad is one of the directors of the action-drama show “Ang Probinsiyano,” which also stars Raval.
“Double Barrel” will hit Philippine theaters nationwide on August 9, 2017. Watch my full interview with AJ here:
