Representing the Dominican Republic, Aletxa Mueses, 22, won the sports challenge of Miss World 2017 on November 9, 2017 in Sanya, China. This made her the first quarterfinalist of the international beauty pageant’s 67th edition.

Mueses was in the Yellow Team of the Miss World Sportswoman Final 2017. Her teammates were Miss Aruba Anouk Eman, Miss Bosnia and Herzegovina Aida Karamehmedović, Miss Kenya Magline Jeruto, Miss Mongolia Enkhjin Tseveendash, Miss Netherlands Philisantha van Deuren, Miss Romania Mihaela Bosca and Miss Singapore Laanya Ezra Asogan.

Runner-up to Mueses as Miss World Sportswoman 2017 was Miss Cook Islands Alanna Smith. Miss British Virgin Islands Helina Hewlett was second runner-up.

“I found the pageant experience an incredibly humbling experience,” Smith told Cook Islands News after winning Miss Cook Islands 2017 on July 29, 2017 at the Cook Islands National Auditorium. “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I have received from my family, friends and the community at large. I have definitely felt the love.”

Both Smith and Hewlett were in the Red Team. Their teammates were Miss Argentina Avril Marco, Miss Bahamas Geena Thompson, Miss Guinea Asmaou Diallo, Miss Italy Conny Notarstefano, Miss Jamaica Solange Sinclair and Miss South Africa Ade van Heerden.

Aside from the Yellow and Red teams, there was also the Blue Team. The Blue Team members were Miss Mexico Andrea Meza, Miss New Zealand Annie Evans, Miss Northern Ireland Anna Henry, Miss Poland Magdalena Bienkowska, Miss Scotland Romy McCahill, Miss Spain Elisa Tulian and Miss Venezuela Ana Carolina Ugarte.

Miss Fiji Nanise Rainima failed to make it to the Miss World Sportswoman Final 2017 but she did something memorable. In the swimming race, she jumped into the pool and helped Miss Kenya Magline Jaruto finish her race.

“Despite not making the finals of the sport, she won the hearts of the World with her support shown towards Miss Kenya during the swimming competition,” Miss World Fiji director Andhy Blake said. “I am extremely excited about the finals and I look forward to joining her on Sunday when I fly to China for the final leg of the competition.”

On November 18, 2017, Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico will crown her successor. The grand coronation night will be held at the Sanya City Arena in Sanya.
