Miss Intercontinental 2013 third runner-up Koreen Medina, 22, was set to represent the Philippines in Asian Supermodel Contest 2017 but she could not make it to Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands on Dec. 16, Saturday. GMA Network’s homegrown talent Klea Pineda, 18, will then be the only representative of the country to the 11th edition of the international modelling competition.
If Pineda wins Asian Supermodel Contest 2017, the “StarStruck” Season 6 winner will be the first candidate from the Philippines to win the competition. Here are the Filipino models and actresses who previously joined the contest and the special awards they won:
- Bela Padilla, 26
Padilla signed a contract with GMA Network in 2010 but moved to ABS-CBN in 2015. In 2011, the actress-screenwriter won the Media’s Darling and Miss International Friendship awards in the sixth Asian Supermodel Contest in Nanning, Guangxi, China.
- Mariana Del Rio, 26
Born and raised in Brazil, Del Rio speaks English, Portuguese and Filipino. In 2010, the Brazilian model and actress was one of the representatives of the Philippines in up in the fifth Asian Supermodel competition held in Nanning, Guangxi, China and was the second runner-up.
- Rhian Ramos, 27
In 2018, Ramos will play the main character named Zoe on “The One That Got Away” on GMA Network. In 2008, she won the Miss Vitality award and made it to the Top 10 of the third Asian Supermodel Contest in Nanning, Guangxi, China.
- Rhea Nakpil, 27
In 2005, Nakpil was one of the finalists on “StarStruck” Season 3 on GMA Network, and in 2008, she joined the third Asian Supermodel Contest in Nanning, Guangxi, China. She made to the Top 15 of Binibining Pilipinas 2013, where Pia Wurtzbach, who eventually became Miss Universe 2015, was first runner-up.
- Arci Muñoz, 28
Like Nakpil, Muñoz was one of the finalists on “StarStruck” Season 3. In 2008, she won the Miss International Friendship award in the third Asian Supermodel Contest.
- Gwen Ruais, 28
In 2010, Ruais won the Miss Photogenic award in the fifth Asian Supermodel competition in Nanning, Guangxi, China. A year later, she became the runner-up to Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela as Miss World 2011.
- Bianca Paz, 28
In 2010, Paz won the Best Catwalk award in the fifth Asian Supermodel competition. In 2013, she was the third princess in Miss World-Philippines, which was won by Megan Young who went on to become Miss World 2013.
- Steph Henares, 29
In 2016, Henares married former “Survivor Philippines” contestant Gino dela Peña. Like Ramos, who is her cousin, she made it to the Top 10 of the third Asian Supermodel Contest.
- Abby Cruz, 33
Cruz became a GMA Network artist after winning as Binibining Pilipinas 2007 second runner-up. She was one of the Philippine representatives in the third Asian Supermodel Contest.
