Alec Baldwin, Bella Hadid, Avril Lavigne and Lyme disease

Alec Baldwin, 59, Bella Hadid, 21, and Avril Lavigne, 33, suffered from the same infectious disease. It is called Lyme borreliosis, which is also as Lyme disease.

The most common symptom of Lyme disease is called erythema migrans, a skin infection of the bacteria of the Borrelia type. Spread by ticks, these bacteria cause of the disease.

In March 2017, Baldwin opened up to People about his horrifying experience with Lyme disease. He described the symptoms as “black lung, flu-like symptoms” that made him sweat to death in his bed.

“The first time was the worst of all and I really thought, ‘This is it, I’m not going to live,'” Baldwin recalled. “I was alone. I wasn’t married at the time.”

Divorced from his first wife Kim Basinger, Baldwin was lying in bed at the time. According to the actor, he was then telling himself that he was going to die of Lyme disease in his bed.

In 2017, Baldwin attended the annual LymeAid research benefit hosted by the Bay Area Lyme Foundation. Currently, he is filming “M: I 6- Mission Impossible” with Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill.

This disease stopped Hadid from pursuing her dreams of attending the 2016 Olympics. The fashion model was diagnosed in 2012 and had to give up competing as an equestrian in 2013.

In 2015, Lavigne revealed that she had been diagnosed with the disease. For months, the Canadian singer-songwriter had difficulty breathing, moving and talking.

Having recovered from the disease, Lavigne felt the responsibility to talk about it. She told Billboard that she could not just do nothing because “it’s real, it’s out there, it was a simple bug bite and it could happen to anybody.”

Some practicing physicians assert that most Lyme disease cases are neither recognized nor diagnoses while other physicians and researchers argue that the disease is relatively difficult to contract and it can be easily treated with oral antibiotic therapy, Richard Ostfeld noted in his book “Lyme Disease: The Ecology of Complex System.” He added that it is unclear why diagnosis and treatment for the disease are much more contentious than for other diseases.
