ONE Championship recently held a worldwide media conference call for “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” featuring reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, 21, of Singapore and challenger Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi, 35, of Tokyo, Japan. Also on the call was ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, 47.
On May 6, 2016, Lee and Yamaguchi faced each other for the first time on “ONE: Ascent to Power” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The American-Singaporean fighter won via unanimous decision, making her the first and still undefeated ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion.
Lee and Yamaguchi were originally set to have their rematch at “ONE: Immortal Pursuit” on November 24, 2017. However, Lee had to pull out of the competition after being injured in a car crash on November 6, 2017 in Hawaii, United States and was replaced by Gina “Conviction” Iniong, 28, of the Philippines as Yamaguchi’s opponent.
During the worldwide media conference call for “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams,” Lee was asked about the accident. She said her family helped and supported her and together, they got through it.
“I feel thankful for everything,” Lee stated. “I am so excited to be back in action. I’ve missed everything that comes along with competition, the training and preparation, and of course, getting right back in the cage.”
“I think fans are going to see a great matchup,” the reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion added. “I just want to go in there, do what I love, and the results will show.”
“ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” will take place on May 18, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Meanwhile, here is a short interview with the reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion at the “ONE: Global Superheroes” press conference:
