Eight months after losing the ONE Featherweight World Champion belt to Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Australia and Vietnam, Marat “Cobra” Gafurov of  Dagestan, Russia returned to the cage. On April 20, 2018, the Russian fighter faced Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia, 31, of the United States at “ONE: Heroes of Honor” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

The featherweight bout between Gafurov and Urrutia was the seventh bout of the evening at “ONE: Heroes of Honor.” Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the bout at 2:34 of Round 1 when Gafurov submitted Urrutia via arm triangle choke.

“ONE: Heroes of Honor” marked Gafurov’s eighth ONE Championship bout and seventh win in the promotion. His undefeated record was broken when he lost to Nguyen on August 18, 2017 at “ONE: Quest for Greatness.”

After defeating Urrutia, Gafurov now has 16 wins and 1 loss while Urrutia’s record downgraded to 11 wins and 5 losses. Before facing Gafurov, Urrutia defeated Edward Kelly and Bruno Pucci in the ONE Championship cage.

ONE Championship launched its brand new striking martial arts league ONE Super Series at “ONE: Heroes of Honor.” The event also marked the first time all MMA bouts of the promotion took place in a five-rope ring instead of a cage.

Meanwhile, in the main event of the MMA card, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of the Philippines battled it out with Andrew Leone of the United States in the bantamweight division. The Filipino fighter knocked out his American opponent at 1:27 of Round 2.

In the main event of the ONE Super Series card, Giorgio Petrosyan, an Armenian kickboxer based in Italy, competed against Thai Muay Thai star “Smokin” Jo Nattawut of Thailand in a kickboxing bout in the 76 kg division. After three five-minute rounds, the judges declared the Armenian-Italian fighter as the winner via unanimous decision.
