Sam-a Gaiyanghadao of Thailand was crowned the first ever ONE Super Series Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion on May 18, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The Muay Thai legend defeated Sergio Wielzen of the Netherlands at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams.”
With Atsushi Onari as the referee, Gaiyanghadao and Wielzen engaged inside the ONE Championship cage for four rounds. Onari put a stop to the Muay Thai bout at 2:47 of Round 4 and declared Gaiyanghadao as the winner via knockout.
This is the second time Gaiyanghadao competed inside the ONE Championship cage. On Janury 26, 2018, he and Joseph “Hurricane” Lasiri of Italy competed at “ONE: Global Superheroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
The bout between Gaiyanghadao and Lasiri at “ONE: Global Superheroes” was first ever Muay Thai match inside the ONE Championship cage. The Thai martial arts veteran knocked out his Italian opponent in the second round.
There were three bouts under the ONE Super Series card at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” with Atsushi Onari as the referee. The first one was a Muay Thai contest between Lasiri and Singtongnoi Por Telakun of Thailand.
Singtongnoi and Lasiri competed in the 61.2 kg division. The Thai fighter knocked out his Italian opponent in the second round.
The second ONE Super Series bout was a kickboxing match between Yodsanklai “The Hero” IWE Fairtex of Thailand and Chris Ngimbi of Congo in the 72.5 kg. After three rounds, Fairtex was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
