Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex beats Chris Ngimbi at ‘ONE: Unstoppable Dreams’ in Singapore

ONE Championship was in its home country Singapore on May 18, 2018 for “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams,” which featured both mixed martial arts and ONE Super Series bouts. One of the ONE Super Series bouts was between Yodsanklai “The Hero” IWE Fairtex of Thailand and Chris Ngimbi of Congo.

Fairtex and Ngimbi competed in the 72.5 kg in a kickboxing contest at for “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams.” After three rounds, the Thai martial artist was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

The kickboxing bout between Fairtex and Ngimbi was the eighth bout of the evening. Atsushi Onari served as the referee of all the ONE Super Series bouts, all of which were won by a Thai contender.

The first ONE Super Series bout was a Muay Thai contest between Joseph “Hurricane” Lasiri of Italy and Singtongnoi Por Telakun of Thailand in the 61.2 kg division. The Thai fighter knocked out his Italian opponent in the second round.

Also from Thailand, Sam-a Gaiyanghadao competed in the inaugural ONE Super Series Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship against Sergio Wielzen of the Netherlands. The Thai contender won the title after knocking out his Dutch opponent at 2:47 of Round 4.

The Muay Thai bout between Gaiyanghadao and Wielzen was the second co-main event of the evening. In the first co-main event, Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Australia and Vietnam successfully defended his ONE Featherweight World Champion title from Christian “The Warrior” Lee of Singapore by winning via split decision.

Angela “Unstoppable” Lee of Singapore is still the reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion after defeating her Japanese rival Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi in their rematch at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams.” This marked the ninth consecutive win of the undefeated Singaporean mixed martial artist.

In the main event, Angela “Unstoppable” Lee of Singapore defended her ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion title from Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi of Japan in a rematch. The Singaporean champion kept the title and her undefeated record by defeating her Japanese challenger via unanimous decision.
