Leandro Issa vs Roman Alvarez at ‘ONE: Spirit of a Warrior’ in Yangon, Myanmar

On June 29, 2018, Leandro “Brodinho” Issa, 34, of Brazil and Roman “Sonic Boom” Alvarez, 23, of Guam will compete at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. It marks the ONE Championship debut of the Guamanian mixed martial artist.

Alvarez was a Trench Warz Featherweight Champion. On December 12, 2014, he knocked out his fellow Guamanian fighter Robert “Che’lu Zombie” Wusstig at “Trench Warz 18: Rock and Rumble.”

With a professional MMA record of 6 wins and 1 loss, Alvarez is coming out of a victory over Robin Eclavea, also a Guamanian fighter. On September 15, 2017, Alvarez submitted Eclavea via rear-naked choke at “Rites of Passage 22: Rampage.”

At “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior,” Issa and Alvarez will battle it out in the bantamweight division. Currently reigning as the ONE Bantamweight World Champion is Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, 38, of Brazil.

“ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” marks the seventh time Issa is competing in the ONE Championship cage. After his first four bouts in the championship, he competed in five bouts in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

On August 5, 2017, Issa returned to ONE Championship and knocked out Toni “Dynamite” Tauru, 33, of Finland via punches at “ONE: Kings and Conquerors.” On November 24, 2017, the Brazilian fighter defeated his South Korean opponent “Ottogi” Dae Hwan Kim, 31, via unanimous decision at “ONE: Immortal Pursuit.”

Currently, Issa has a professional MMA record of 15 wins and 6 losses. If he wins at “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior,” it will be his fifth ONE Championship victory.

Headlining “ONE: Spirit of a Warrior” are reigning ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang of Myanmar and Ken Hasegawa of Japan. The Burmese champ will defend his middleweight champion belt from his Japanese challenger, who is making his ONE Championship debut.
