Xiong Jing Nan keeps ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion belt

Hailing from Beijing, China, “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan, 30, of China is still the ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion. She was able to defend her title from ONE Championship debutante Laura “La Gladiadora” Balin of Argentina in a five-round affair at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power.”

On June 20, 2018, Xiong and Balin were at the Ruínas da Antiga Catedral de São Paulo in Santo Antonio, Macau, China for the official of “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” along with 20 other ONE Championship athletes. On June 23, 2018, the two female strawweight fighters battled it out at the Studio City Event Center in Macau.

The bout between Xiong and Balin was the co-main event of “ONE: Pinnacle of Power.” After five five-minute rounds, referee Yuji Shimada raised the hand of the reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion as the winner via unanimous decision.

This is the first time Xiong is defended her title. She became the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion on January 30, 2018 when she defeated Tiffany Teo of Singapore at “ONE: Kings of Courage.”

When Xiong made her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Warriors of the World” on December 9, 2017, she defeated April Osenio of the Philippines. Both Teo and Osenio lost to Xiong via technical knockout via punches.

Balin is the first ONE Championship opponent Xiong did not defeat via a finish. Overall, the Argentinian fighter is the fourth opponent the Chinese fighter defeated via unanimous decision.

After losing to Xiong, Balin’s record downgraded to 10 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Xiong improved her record to 12 wins and 1 loss.
