2018 World Cup final: UFC champ Khabib Nurmagomedov fulfills childhood dream

Russia successfully played host to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which started on June 14, 2018. Reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, 29, was one of the hometown sports heroes who watched the final of the international football tournament on July 15, 2018.

For Nurmagomedov, watching the World Cup final is a dream come true. He took to Instagram to share a photo of himself at the historic sports event.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup final took place at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia. France was crowned the champion with Croatia, Belgium and England winning the second, third and fourth places, respectively.

Aside from Nurmagomedov, Russian UFC fighter Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov, 31, also watched the 2018 FIFA World Cup final. While Lobov was born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, he is fighting of out Dublin, Ireland and is currently not in good terms with Nurmagomedov.

Lobov is friends with Irish mixed martial artist Conor “The Notorious” McGregor, 30, and they are both members of Straight Blast Gym Ireland. The latter is a former UFC Lightweight Champion.

McGregor attended the 2018 FIFA World Cup final as a special guest of Vladimir Putin, 65, the incumbent president of Russia. There are still no reports about whether or not McGregor and Nurmagomedov encountered each other at the Luzhniki Stadium during the culmination of the international football tournament.

Fight fans have been waiting for a superfight between Nurmagomedov and McGregor. Rumors claim that the bout will take place in Russia before 2019.

Fighting out of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia, Nurmagomedov has been reigning as the UFC Lightweight Champion since April 7, 2018. He currently holds a professional MMA record of 26 wins and 0 loss.

Nurmagomedov made his successful UFC debut on January 20, 2012. He submitted Kamal Shalorus via rear-naked choke at “UFC on FOX.”

Shalorus is the first of the 10 opponents Nurmagomedov defeated in the UFC. The other nine are Gleison Tibau, 35, of Brazil, Thiago Tavares, 33, of Brazil, Abel “Killa” Trujillo, 34, of the United States, Pat “Bam Bam” Healy, 34, of the U.S., Rafael dos Anjos, 33, of Brazil, Darrell “The Saint” Horcher, 30, of the U.S., Michael “The Menace” Johnson, of the U.S., Edson Barboza, 32, of Brazil and Al Iaquinta, 31, of the U.S.
