Featuring 11 bouts, “ONE: Reign of Kings” is the third of the four ONE Championship events scheduled in the Philippines in 2018. On the fight card were eight mixed martial arts bouts and three matches under the Singapore-based martial arts promotion’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.
The sixth bout of the evening was a striking bout between Armen Petrosyan, 31, of Milan, Italy and Chris “The African Warrior” Ngimbi, 34, of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They competed at a catch weight of 72.5 kg in a kickboxing contest in ONE Super Series.
Ngimbi is a two-time Muay Thai World Champion. After falling short in his ONE Super Series debut at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” on May 18, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, he sought the redemption that he desired, edging out Petrosyan via split decision in their three-round catchweight kickboxing showdown at “ONE: Reign of Kings.”
At “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams,” Ngimbi faced Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex, 32, of Thailand in a kickboxing catchweight bout at 72.5kg. The Thai contender won via unanimous decision.
At “ONE: Reign of Kings,” Petrosyan kept himself aggressive all throughout the contest but Ngimbi landed the more telling blows from bell to bell. This was enough to persuade two of three cageside judges to score in the favor of the Congolese martial artist.
The press conference for “ONE: Reign of Kings” took place at the City of Dreams Manila in Paranaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines on July 24, 2018. The fight night took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on July 27, 2018.
