Featuring 11 bouts, “ONE: Reign of Kings” is the third of the four ONE Championship events scheduled in the Philippines in 2018. On the fight card were eight mixed martial arts bouts and three matches under the promotion’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.
The seventh bout of the evening was an MMA bout between Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon, 26, of New Jersey, United States and Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 26, of India. They competed in an MMA match in the lightweight division.
Tonon was successful in his second appearance in the ONE Championship cage, defeating Raju via submission in round three. After testing his striking abilities for the majority of the first two rounds, the international grappling superstar from New Jersey went back to his strengths in the third, taking the action to the canvas where he fastened a deep rear naked choke to seal the deal.
After losing to Tonon, Raju now has a professional MMA record of 5 wins and 3 losses. “ONE: Reign of Kings” marked his second bout and second loss in ONE Championship.
On the other hand, Tonon is now an undefeated MMA fighter with 2 wins. When he made his professional MMA debut on March 24, 2018 at “ONE: Iron Will,” he knocked out his Malaysia-based Filipino opponent Richard “Lion Heart” Corminal, 36, via punches and elbows.
The press conference for “ONE: Reign of Kings” took place at the City of Dreams Manila in Paranaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines on July 24, 2018. The fight night took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila on July 27, 2018.
