Fighting out of Australia and Vietnam, reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen believes that Team Lakay fighters have the same fighting styles. But Team Lakay founder and head coach Mark “The Machine” Sangiao disagrees.

Nguyen has faced two Team Lakay fighters. The Vietnamese-Australian fighter defeated Edward “The Ferocious”Kelly and former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang on November 13, 2015 at “ONE: Pride of Lions” and on November 10, 2017 at “ONE: Legends of the World,” respectively.

On July 27, 2018, Nguyen will face his third opponent from Team Lakay. The two-division world champion will make an attempt to capture a third title by competing against Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon for the ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion belt in the main event of “ONE: Reign of Kings.”

On July 24, 2018, Nguyen and Belingon had their face-off at the “ONE: Reign of Kings” press conference at the City of Dreams Manila in Paranaque City, Metro Manila, Philippines. During the event, I asked Sangiao about Nguyen’s comments on Team Lakay fighters’ similar style.

“That’s what he thought but for us, it is different,” the Team Lakay head coach told me. “Kevin (Belingon) is a very complete fighter. I know he is very wise.”

Sangiao assured the Team Lakay fans that Belingon has prepared sufficiently for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship bout against Nguyen. The Team Lakay head coach said, “We’ll see this coming Friday.”

Belingon will not be the only Team Lakay fighter to compete at “ONE: Reign of Kings.” Folayang will be on the main card facing undefeated Dagestani fighter Aziz Pahrudinov in the lightweight division.

Also representing Team Lakay, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio will compete in the strawweight division. His opponent is undefeated Thai fighter Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin”Mitsatit.

If Belingon wins at “ONE: Reign of Kings,” he will be the fourth world champion of ONE Championship to come from Team Lakay. The first three are Folayang, former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario and reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio.
