Fighting out of Sonora, Mexico, Iran “MagnifiKO” Diaz, 22, is one of the fastest rising talents in Mexican boxing. In his next bout, he will challenge reigning The Ring and World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Flyweight World Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, 31, of Thailand.
“I would like to thank ONE Championship for believing in me and for giving me the chance to face this honorable champion, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai,” Diaz stated. “I can’t wait to feel his power and experience what everyone is talking about. I believe in my heart that this is my time to become a world champion.”
Sor Rungvisai will defend his WBC Super Flyweight World Champion title from Diaz at “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes,” set for October 6, 2018 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. To promote the event, ONE Championship partnered with Nakornloung Promotion (NKL).
“Coming into my opponent’s home country, I know it’s enemy territory, and I know the fans will be cheering loudly for him,” Diaz shared. “But I believe in my skills, and I believe in my talent. I am coming to Bangkok to score a huge upset.”
Born and raised in a country known for its passionate love for pugilism, Diaz holds a professional boxing record of 14 wins, 2 losses and 3 draws with 6 knockouts to his name. His most notable victories have come over dangerous former World Champions Hernan “Tyson” Marquez and Luis Concepcion.
Diaz won three of his five most recent contests. Riding a wave of momentum heading into his next bout, the hard-hitting Mexican boxer is ready to capture the WBC Super Flyweight World Champion title from Sor Rungvisai.
“World championship boxing has always been on the radar for ONE Championship ever since we introduced the ONE Super Series,” ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated. He added that “ONE: Kingdom of Heroes” will be “the biggest event in Thailand’s history.”
Meanwhile, here is Sityodtong inviting Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao to compete in ONE Championship:
