Hawaii’s Martin Day is URCC Bantamweight Champion

Fighting out of Kailua, Hawaii, United States, Martin “The Spartan” Day, 29, was crowned the new URCC Bantamweight Champion on August 4, 2018. He won in his first bout in the Philippines-based mixed martial arts promotion Ultimate Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Global.

Day made his URCC Global debut at “URCC 34: Destiny,” the promotion’s 34th event held in partnership with Hawaiian MMA organization Destiny Promotions. It took place at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond, California, United States.

In the co-main event at “URCC 34: Destiny,” Day competed against then Interim URCC Bantamweight Champion Brady “The Kung Fu Warrior” Huang of San Francisco, California for the URCC Bantamweight Championship title. The referee put a stop to the bout at 1:10 of Round 2 when the Hawaiian contender knocked out his Californian opponent.

The victory marked Day’s ninth win as a professional MMA fighter. By winning at “URCC 34: Destiny,” he improved his record to 9 wins and 2 losses.

Day is now riding a three-bout winning streak. Before joining URCC Global, the Hawaiian MMA fighter had two consecutive wins in Destiny MMA.

On February 17, 2018, Day submitted Richard Barnard via guillotine choke at “Destiny MMA Fight Night 4.” On June 23, 2018, Day defeated Shojin Miki via unanimous decision in a rematch at “Destiny MMA Fight Night 5.”

On January 17, 2015, Day made his professional MMA debut at “Destiny MMA: Na Koa 8.” He was an undefeated fighter from 2015 to 2016.

The only two losses in Day’s record happened in 2017. He lost via technical knockout to Nohelin Hernandez at “Global Knockout 9” and via unanimous decision to Jaime Alvarez at “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” Season 1 episode 6.

In between those two losses, Day faced Miki for the first time. The former knocked out the latter via punches at “Capone’s Productions- Mid-Pac: Mid-Pacific Championships 3” on June 9, 2017.

As a martial artist, Day is a 4th degree Taekwondo black belt. Before fighting professionally, he worked as a Taekwondo instructor.

Meanwhile, here is Day discussing his decision to accept the fight in “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” Season 1 episode 6:
