Fighting out of Kanagawa, Japan, Koyomi Matsushima, 25, is one of the Japanese mixed martial artists recently signed with ONE Championship. On September 22, 2018, he earned his first victory in the promotion.

Matsushima made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the eighth bout of the evening, he competed against former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov, 33, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia in the featherweight division.

Referee Yuji Shimada put a stop to the featherweight bout between Matsushima and Gafurov at 2:41 of Round 1. The Japanese ONE Championship debutante knocked out his Russian opponent.

Winning at “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” improved Matsushima’s professional MMA record to 10 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Gafurov’s record downgraded to 16 wins and 2 losses.

This made Matsushima the second MMA fighter to defeat Gafurov. The first one was reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam, who is also the reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion.

It was a redemptive win for Matsushima. The Kanagawa native was coming out of a loss to Isao Kobayashi, 29, who is also from Kanagawa.

There were three Japanese athletes on the “ONE: Conquest of Heroes” including Yuya  “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu, 23, of Kagoshima, Japan, who made his ONE Championship debut Matsushima. Wakamatsu lost to Danny “The King” Kingad, 22, of Baguio City, Philippines via unanimous decision.

In the main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of Baguio City, Philippines challenged reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 34, of Chiba, Japan for the second time. The Filipino challenger dethroned the Japanese champion via unanimous decision.

Fighting out of Jakarta, Indonesia, Stefer “The Lion” Rahardian, 31, competed against Peng Xue Wen, 21, of Zhongshan, Guangdong, China in the strawweight division in the co-main event of “ONE: Conquest of Heroes.” The Chinese contender won via unanimous decision.
