Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC Fight Night 138” took place at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on October 27, 2018. In the ninth bout of the evening, Gian Villante, 33, of Bellmore, New York, United States faced Ed “Short Fuse” Herman, 38, of Portland, Oregon, United States.

Blue Corner

Villante is of Italian descent. He was born in Wantagh, New York, United States.

Training out of Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, the Italian-American MMA fighter is blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. “UFC Fight Night 138” marked his 14th UFC bout.

Red Corner

Herman was born in Vancouver, Washington, United States. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The Portland resident is training out of Gracie Barra Portland. “UFC Fight Night 138” marked his 21st UFC bout.

Fight Results 

Villante and Herman competed in the light heavyweight division at “UFC Fight Night 138.” Currently reigning as the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion is Daniel “DC” Cormier, 39, of San Jose, California, United States.

After three five-minute rounds, the light heavyweight bout between Villante and Herman was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Yves Lavigne raised the hand of the fighter from New York, who was declared the winner via split decision.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 138” improved Villante’s professional MMA record to 17 wins and 10 losses.  On the other hand, losing to the New York native downgraded Herman’s record to 23 wins, 14 losses and 1 No Contest.

“UFC Fight Night 138” Main Events

In the co-main event, Michael “The Menace” Johnson of Boca Raton, Florida, United States and Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov of Dublin, Ireland competed in a catch weight of 147 lbs. After three five-minute rounds, the American contender defeated his Russian-Irish opponent via unanimous decision.

In the main event, Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir of Fribourg, Switzerland and Anthony “Lionheart” Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, United States competed in the light heavyweight division. The American contender submitted his Swiss opponent via rear-naked choke at 4:26 of Round 3.
