Team Lakay’s Eduard Folayang is Martial Arts Hero of the Year at Global Martial Arts Awards 2018

Representing Team Lakay, Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 34, of Baguio City, Philippines was named the Martial Arts Hero of the Year at the Global Martial Arts Awards 2018. The awarding ceremony took place at the JW Marriott Hotel South Beach in Singapore on November 8, 2018.

The Martial Arts Hero of the Year was one of the 16 categories at the Global Martial Arts Awards 2018. In the category, Folayang defeated Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, 22, of Singapore, “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 34, of Myanmar and “The Situ-Asian” Martin Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam, of ONE Champion, Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Tenshin Nasukawa of Rizin Fighting Federation.

Folayang is a former ONE Lightweight World Champion. He held the title from November 11, 2016 to November 10, 2017 when he was dethroned by Nguyen.

On November 22, 2018, Folayang will turn 35. On November 23, 2018, the Team Lakay fighter will try to redeem the ONE Lightweight World Championship title as he and Amir Khan, 23, Singapore are headlining “ONE: Conquest of Champions” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Folayang currently holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 20 wins and 6 losses. He is riding a two-bout winning streak.

“There’s no greater gift I can receive on my 35th birthday other than winning the ONE Lightweight Word Title back,” Folayang said weeks before the Global Martial Arts Awards 2018 awarding ceremony. “And there’s no better place to do it but in front of my countrymen.”

Nguyen recently vacated the ONE Lightweight World Championship title. The Vietnamese-Australian fighter is still the reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion.

After losing to Nguyen, Folayang dominated two previously undefeated fighters from Dagestan, Russia. The Team Lakay fighter defeated Kharun “Predator” Atlangeriev, 26, at “ONE: Unstoppable Dreams” on May 18, 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore and Aziz Pahrudinov, 29, on July 27, 2018 at “ONE: Reign of Kings” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
