Fighting out of Mankayan, Benguet, Philippines, former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario, 29, has earned his eighth victory in ONE Championship. The Igorot mixed martial artist was one of the winners at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” on November 23, 2018.
“ONE: Conquest of Champions” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the 10th bout of the evening, Banario competed against Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju, 27, of India and Singapore in an MMA bout at a catch weight of 79 kg.
Banario overcame a game effort from challenger Raju. The Filipino fighter dominated his Indian opponent in striking exchanges while also threatening with submissions in the first round.
In the second frame, Raju made it a competitive bout. However, Banario came alive once again in the third and nearly finished his Indian opponent with a rear naked choke.
After three five-minute rounds, the bout between Banario and Raju was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, referee Olivier Coste raised the hand of the Team Lakay fighter as the winner via unanimous decision.
Originally from India and is now based in Singapore, Raju took the bout in four days notice. He replaced “Crazy Dog” Park Dae Sung, 25, of Seoul, South Korea, who was originally set to face Banario at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” but was pulled out of the card due to medical concerns.
Winning at “ONE: Conquest of Champions” improved Banario’s professional MMA record to 14 wins and 7 losses. It was a redemptive win for the Team Lakay fighter, who was coming out of a rear-naked choke submission loss to Amir Khan, 24, of Singapore at “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” on September 8, 2018 at the Baoshan Sports Center in Shanghai, China.
The first seven opponents Banario defeated in ONE Championship were Andrew Benibe, 38, of Marikina City, Metro Manila, Philippines, Eric “The Natural” Kelly, 35, of Baguio City, Philippines, Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre, 38, of Cebu, Philippines, Eddie “The Magician” Ng, 32, of Hong Kong, Rajinder “Knockout” Singh Meena, 31, of Delhi, India, Jaroslav Jartim, 25, of Prague, Czech Republic and Adrian “The Hunter” Pang, 41, of Papua New Guinea and Australia.
