Fighting out of Accokeek, Maryland, United States, Jarrett “Swift” Hurd, 28, holds the super welterweight titles in International Boxing Organization, World Boxing Association (Super) and International Boxing Federation. He successfully defended the titles on the undercard of the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury boxing event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, USA on December 1, 2018.

Hurd faced Jason Welborn, 32, of Tividale, West Midlands, England, United Kingdom. Lou Moret served as the referee.

After 1 minute and 55 seconds in the fourth of 12 rounds, Moret put a stop to the boxing bout between Hurd and Welborn. The American defending champion knocked out his English challenger.

This is the 15th time Hurd won a professional boxing bout via knockout. Out of these 15 knockout wins, 9 were via technical knockout.

Losing to Hurd downgraded Welborn’s professional boxing record to 24 wins and 7 losses. On the other hand, the champion from Accokeek maintained his undefeated record and now has 23 wins and 0 loss.

The reigning IBO, WBA (Super) and IBF Super Welterweight Champion was born on August 31, 1990 in Accokeek. He has been competing professionally since 2012.

On February 25, 2017, Hurd won the IBF Super Welterweight Championship title by defeating Tony Harrison, 28, of Detroit, Michigan, USA. The former knocked out the latter after 2 minutes and 24 seconds in the ninth of 12 rounds.

On November 14, 2017, Hurd successfully defended his IBF Super Welterweight Championship belt from Austin “No Doubt” Trout, 33, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA. The latter lost via retirement in the 10th of 12 rounds.

Erislandy Lara challenged Hurd on April 7, 2018 for the IBF Super Welterweight Championship. The winner will also earn the WBA (Super) and IBF Super Welterweight Championship titles.

After 12 rounds, the championship bout between Lara and Hurd was left in the hands of the judges. The defending champion won via split decision.

Before facing Lara, Hurd suffered a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder during the training camp but received a cortisone shot prior to the bout. It was fixed through a surgery in June 2018.
