Seven days before the Miss Universe 2018 coronation night, the 94 candidates of the 67th edition of one of the top international beauty pageants in the world competed in a national costume show. The event took place in Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Pattaya, Thailand on December 10, 2018.
All the 94 candidates looked stunning during the national costume show. But for me, these are the 13 candidates who handled the stage best while still maintaining grace, elegance and outstanding beauty:
13. Eliza Muradyan (Armenia) wore a white embroidered satin dress based on the traditional costume of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.
12. Eva Colas (France) wore bikini along with red, white and blue French flag colors and World Cup trophy emblems.
11. Andrea Toscano (Mexico) was dressed like a Jaguar queen of the Mayans.
10. Sophida Kanchanarin (Thailand) complemented her elephant dress with a royal Thai garb.
9. Ji Hyun Baek (Korea) wore a traditional Korean dress called Hanbok in hand-painted textile and ornamental lace.
8. Tamaryn Green (South Africa) wore a dress made of more than 1,000 blue and grey feathers inspired by South Africa’s national bird blue crane.
7. Valeria Morales (Colombia) wore a dress inspired by Colombia’s national flower orchid.
6. Francesca Hung (Australia) wore a yellow dress inspired by Australia’s national flower golden wattle.
5. Trejsi Sejdini (Albania) designed her own dress featuring Albanian flag colors red and black.
4. Catriona Gray (Philippines) wore a costume that represented the three Philippine groups of islands namely Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao featuring a brass headpiece and a footwear embroidered with indigenous Filipino textile patterns.
3. Sthefany Guetierrez (Venezuela) was dressed like a goddess of nature covered with thousands of crystals.
2. Angela Ponce (Spain) wore a traditional white Spanish dress accompanied by a ripple of red carnations and a white fan.
1. Yuumi Kato (Japan) came out as a female ninja who transformed into Sailor Moon, the title character of a Japanese shojo manga series by Naoko Taeuchi.
Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa will crown her successor on December 17, 2018 at Impact Arena in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand. The show will be aired on Fox, Azteca and PPTV.
