The recently signed agreement between Turner Sports and ONE Championship has been officially confirmed. As agreed, TNT, the multichannel television network of the former, will televise at least 12 one-hour taped re-airs featuring the events of the latter per year from 2019 to 2021.
ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said the Singapore-based martial arts organization is thrilled to partner with Turner Sports, which will distribute its live event coverage in the United States. The distribution agreement was reached in collaboration between the two companies in association with Evolution Media.
“We are thrilled to partner with Turner Sports, a truly iconic industry leader of premium sports content, to bring authentic, world-class martial arts action to American fans,” Chatri stated. “As the Home of Martial Arts, ONE Championship has a simple formula of values, heroes, and stories that have resonated deeply across the globe. We look forward to showcasing the greatest martial artists in the world.”
Per terms of the agreement, Turner Sports’ live sports streaming service B/R Live will be the primary destination for ONE Championship live events each year. There are 24 overall events scheduled in 2019 starting with “ONE: Eternal Glory,” which will take place at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 19, 2019.
“ONE: Eternal Glory” will be headlined by reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines with Hayato Suzuki, 32, of Takahagi City, Ibaraki, Japan as the challenger. It will be a rematch between the two.
Moreover, B/R Live will distribute shoulder programming surrounding the live event experience. Additional scheduling and distribution information, including pricing, will be shared at a later date.
“ONE Championship is one of the most popular mixed martial arts organizations in the world with a high concentration of passionate, millennial fans that make it a perfect fit for B/R Live and TNT,” Turner Sports president Lenny Daniels said. “We will leverage every opportunity within our portfolio to partner with ONE Championship and help further expand its footprint in the U.S.”
ONE Championship is an organization that hosts bouts across all styles of martial arts. Aside from mixed martial arts, it also has Muay Thai and kickboxing bouts under its striking-only league ONE Super Series.
Recently, ONE Championship made headlines when it expanded its roster with high-profile U.S. talent signings Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson last October, followed by “Super” Sage Northcutt. The MMA standouts are set to join ONE Championship existing stars such as “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang of Myanmar, Angela “Unstoppable” Lee of Singapore and Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, of the Philippines.
Including Pacio, four of the reigning champions of ONE Championship are training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines. Here is a clip featuring the champions:
