Fighting out of Den Bosch, Netherlands, Robin van Roosmalen, 29, is leaving kickboxing so he could focus on mixed martial arts. To do this, the Dutch martial artist recently signed with Paradigm Sports Management.
Founded in 2009, Paradigm Sports Management represents football and MMA stars. Among its athletes are UFC fighters Conor “Notorious” McGregor, 30, of Dublin, Ireland, Michael “The Count” Bisping, 39, of Manchester, England and Cristiane “Cris Cyborg” Justino Venancio, 33, of San Diego, California, United States as well as footballers Josh Tupou, 24, and Vontaze Burfict, 28, of the Cincinnati Bengals and Hayes Pullard, 26, of the Los Angeles Chargers.
As an MMA fighter, van Roosmalen holds a professional record of 2 wins and 0 loss. Both of his victories were via technical knockout via punches.
On February 19, 2016, van Roosmalen knocked out Athinodoros “300” Michailidis, 36, of Athens, Greece in the second round at “Final Fight Championship 22” at the Faliro Olympic Hall in Athens. On March 11, 2017, the Den Bosch native knocked out Risto Dimitrov, 33, of Bitola, Macedonia in the first round at “Final Fight Championship 28” at the Galatsi Olympic Hall in Athens.
As a kickboxer, van Roosmalen holds a professional record of 51 wins, 17 losses and 3 draws. He competed professionally from 2004 to 2018.
Van Roosmalen was the first ever kickboxer to win two division titles in Glory Kickboxing. He was a champion in the lightweight and featherweight divisions.
On November 7, 2014, van Roosmalen became the Glory Lightweight Champion by defeating Davit Kiria, 30, of Georgia via majority decision at “Glory 18: Oklahoma” at the Grand Casino Hotel Resort in Shawnee, Oklahoma, United States. In 2015, the Dutch kickboxer successfully defended the title from Andy “The Machine” Ristie, 36, of Amsterdam, Netherlands and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, 27, of Bangkok, Thailand.
On June 25, 2016, van Roosmalen and Sitthichai had their rematch at “Glory 31: Amsterdam” at the Amsterdam RAI in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Thai challenger dethroned the Dutch defending champion via split decision.
On November 21, 2016, van Roosmalen returned to the Glory Kickboxing ring and became the Glory Featherweight Champion. He defeated Gabriel Varga, 33, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canadavia technical knockout via corner stoppage at “Glory 34: Denver” at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, USA.
On January 20, 2017, van Roosmalen knocked out Matt “Matics” Embree, 29, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada at “Glory 37: Los Angeles” at The Novo by Microsoft in Los Angeles, California, USA. However, the Dutch kickboxer was stripped off his Glory Featherweight Championship belt because he failed to make weight.
On May 20, 2017, van Roosmalen redeemed the Glory Featherweight Championship title by defeating Petpanomrung Kiatmuu9, 24, of Bangkok, Thailand via majority decision at “Glory 41: Holland” at the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch. The Dutch kickboxer successfully defended the title from Serhiy Adamchuk and Kevin VanNostrand.
However, van Roosmalen lost the Glory Featherweight Championship title in his most recent kickboxing bout. In his rematch with Petpanomrung at “Glory 59: Amsterdam” at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on September 29, 2018, the Thai kickboxer won via unanimous decision.
