“ONE: Hero’s Ascent” will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 25, 2019. It is the first ONE Championship event in the country in 2019.

This will be the first title defense of Eustaquio since his crowning as the ONE Flyweight World Champion. He earned the title on June 23, 2018 when he dethroned Moraes at “ONE: Pinnacle of Power” at the Studio Event Center in Macau, China.

Eustaquio is one of the four reigning ONE Championship champions training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City. The other three are ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 35, ONE Bantamweight World Champion Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon, 31, and ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22.

There have only been three MMA fighters to ever hold the ONE Flyweight World Championship title. The first one was Moraes, became the inaugural champion in the division by defeating Eustaquio at “ONE: Rise of the Kingdom” at the Koh Pich Theatre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on September 12, 2014.

On September 13, 2015, Moraes successfully defended the title from Asuka Mikami, 33, of Tokyo, Japan who is now professionally known as Riku “The Outsider” Shibuya, at “ONE: Age of Champions” at Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. But on November 21, 2015, Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhtemov, 31, of Taldykorgan, Almaty, Kazakhstan dethroned the Brazilian champ at “ONE: Dynasty of Champions 4” at the Olympics Sports Center Gymnasium in Beijing, China.

On August 13, 2016, Moraes became the new ONE Interim Flyweight World Champion by defeating Tilek Batyrov at “ONE: Heroes of the World” at the Cotai Arena in Macau. On August 5, 2017, the Brazilian had returned to the same venue for his rematch with Akhtemov at “ONE: Kings and Conquerors.”

Moraes reclaimed the ONE Flyweight World Championship title at “ONE: Kings and Conquerors” by dethroning Akhmetov. On November 10, 2017, the Brazilian champion successfully defended the title from Eustaquio’s fellow Team Lakay fighter Danny “The King” Kingad, 23, of Baguio City at “ONE: Legends of the World” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Before avenging Kingad and dethroning Moraes, Eustaquio first became the ONE Interim Flyweight World Champion by defeating Akhtemov at “ONE: Global Superheroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on January 26, 2018. It was a rematch between Eustaquio and Akhmetov following the Filipino contender’s win against the Kazakh fighter at “ONE: Total Victory” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 16, 2017.
