The Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlocked country in South Asia. The country is divided into 20 districts called Dzongkhag.

On September 21, 1971, Bhutan became a member of the United Nations. On July 18, 2008, the country’s government became a constitutional monarch with its first democratically elected parliament adopting its constitution.

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, 39, has been reigning as Bhutan’s Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) since December 9, 2006. The country’s incumbent prime minister Lotay Tshering, 50, assumed office on November 7, 2018.
