The Bailiwick of Jersey, an island in Northern Europe, is one of the three island territories in the British Islands that are self-governing possessions of the British Crown. The other two are the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

Jersey and Guernsey are part of the Channel Islands, an archipelago in the English Channel. Although the islands are not part of the United Kingdom, the U.K. is responsible for the defense and international relations of the islands.

In 1204, Jersey separated from the Duchy of Normandy. The bailiwick’s incumbent lieutenant governor Stephen Dalton, 64, assumed office on March 13, 2017.
