The Republic of Turkey is a country in Western Asia. The country shares borders with the Black Sea to the north, Georgia to the northeast, Greece and Bulgaria to the northwest, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east, the Aegean Sea to the west, Iraq to the southeast and Syria and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

Turkey was admitted to the United Nations on October 24, 1945. The country’s current constitution was adopted on November 9, 1982.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, 48, is the incumbent and 12th president of Turkey. He assumed office on August 28, 2014 and was reelected on June 24, 2018.
