Training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines, Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 34, looks to score a more decisive victory when he takes on Christian “The Warrior” Lee, 20, of Singapore in a rematch at “ONE: Eternal Glory” at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 19, 2019. Recently, the Filipino mixed martial artist shared his thoughts on the fighting skills of his Singaporean opponent who is representing Evolve MMA.

“His relentlessness is his strength but can also be his weakness,” Kelly said of Lee. “I need to pick my shots, maximize my striking, and be careful with his takedowns.”

Kelly faced Lee in a featherweight match-up on September 8, 2018 in “ONE: Beyond the Horizon” in Shanghai, China. The contest ended just a little over two minutes into the match after the Singaporean contender was disqualified because his suplex was deemed illegal by the referee, giving the win to the Team Lakay fighter.

This time, Kelly is looking for a clear win without any controversy. He is confident the little time they spent together in the ring gave him a better idea on how he can overcome the Evolve MMA athlete.

“I learned that I should never give my back to him and that he will come to attack every second,” Kelly said of Lee. “I think this fight could go to the judges if I am unable to catch him with a big shot. I feel he is well prepared for my style. We both do not want to lose to each other.”

The Team Lakay fighter acknowledges the strengths of the Evolve MMA standout. But the former believes that experience can be used to his favor when he meets the latter again in ONE Championship.

Hoping to use Lee’s aggressiveness against him, Kelly looks to be more patient and tactical in his approach against the six-time Pankration World Champion. But make no mistake about it.

What Kelly intends is not to be ultra conservative in his approach. If he has the opportunity to finish Lee, then he will.

“Should the opening present itself,” Kelly said. “I am definitely going for a knockout.”
