‘The Masked Singer’ guesses: The Monster is Derek Jeter, Robin Thicke thinks

Titled “Five Masks No More,” “The Masked Singer” Season 1 episode 3 aired on Fox on January 16, 2019. One of the five mystery celebrity contestants who performed in the episode was The Monster.

As a guest judge, Joel McHale joined Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy in the judging panel in “Five Masks No More.” McHale and Jeong co-starred in “Community” from 2009 to 2015.

“Let’s get the clue directly from the monster,” host Nick Cannon said after The Monster’s performance. “Hit us up, Monster. What you got?”

The Monster kept it short and sweet. He said, “I like to keep my head in the game.”

“Maybe it’s a golfer,” McCarthy reacted. “Is that crazy to say?”

“Maybe it’s an athlete who can sing, you know?” Jeong said. Thicke agreed saying, “That’s not a bad idea.”

“Well, I noticed something new about New York City and New York City, obviously the Yankees, the most popular team in the world,” Thicke said. “I would say maybe a recently retired New York Yankee. Maybe Derek Jeter.”

Derek Jeter was born in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, United States on June 26, 1974 substance abuse counselor Sanderson Charles Jeter and accountant Dorothy Connors Jeter. Sanderson is African-American while Dorothy is English, German and Irish.

In 1995, Derek made his debut in the Major League Baseball. He played for the New York Yankees from 1995 to 2014.

From 2003 to 2014, Derek was the team captain of the Yankees. Since September 2017, he has been the CEO and part owner of the Miami Marlins.

Scherzinger did not think Jeter was The Monster in “The Masked Singer.” She said, “I don’t think he is an athlete.”

“I think he’s a comedian,” Scherzinger continued. “He’s somebody like, maybe Broadway like…”

What made Scherzinger think The Monster was a comedian was how he moved his feet while the judges were commenting. The mystery singer seemed to be excited by their guesses while he was dancing onstage without saying a word.

Here is a clip from “Five Masks No More” featuring the judges’ guesses about The Monster’s identity:
