Fighting out of Breda, Netherlands, Reinier de Ridder, 28, was one of the winners at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” on January 25, 2019 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It marked his ONE Championship debut.
Featuring one kickboxing contest, four Muay Thai matches and nine mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” was first of the four ONE Championship events in the Philippines in 2019. In the seventh bout of the evening, de Ridder faced “King Kong Warrior” Fan Rong, 25, of China in an MMA match in the middleweight division.
Both de Ridder and Fan entered the cage as ONE Championship debutantes. The latter is training out of Longyun MMA.
De Ridder made quick work of Fan. The Dutch grappler wasted little time in bringing the action to the ground as he took his Chinese opponent down with ease.
On the mat, De Ridder showed off his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pedigree. A submission specialist, he locked in a deep D’Arce Choke to put Fan to sleep in just under two minutes.
Training out of Combat Brothers, de Ridder has been competing professionally since 2013. Winning at “ONE: Hero’s Ascent” improved the undefeated Dutch fighter’s professional MMA record to 10 wins and 0 loss.
“ONE: Hero’s Ascent” marked the eighth time de Ridder won a professional MMA bout via submission. The other two victories in his record were via knockout.
On the other hand, Fan now has 12 wins and 2 losses. Before joining ONE Championship, he competed in WuLinFeng, Chinese MMA Super League and Glory of Heroes, among others.
Before joining ONE Championship, de Ridder competed in several European promotions including Superior Fighting Championship and World Fighting League MMA. He was also a Hit Fighting Championship Middleweight Champion.
The reigning ONE Middleweight World Champion is “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 33, of Myanmar. For de Ridder, he is ready to face the Burmese MMA star.
