Roshan Mainam, 22, is one of the newest members of Evolve Fight Team. He is the first Indian mixed martial artist to join the fight team of Evolve MMA, which was founded by ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong in January 2009.
In a statement obtained by Conan Daily, Mainam thanked his coach Vishal Seigell and his team KOI Combat Academy. The new Evolve Fight Team member said, “Coach Vishal Seigell has been by my side from day one like family.”
“I love my team KOI Combat Academy,” Mainam continued. “Also, we have started an MMA team and train at Paladincedo Sports Arena. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to join my new team at Evolve MMA.”
Evolve Fight Team is the most decorated professional fight team in Asia. Among its members are world champions not only in MMA but also in Muay Thai, kickboxing, boxing and submission grappling, among others, such as Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez and reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela “Unstoppable” Lee.
The Evolve Fight Team global tryouts were held on November 9-15, 2018 in Singapore in time for “ONE: Heart of the Lion,” which was attended by Johnson, Alvarez and Lee. Hundreds sent applications but only 50 fighters were shortlisted.
Out of the shortlisted athletes who participated in the global tryouts, only six were selected to be part of Evolve Fight Team including Mainam. The names of the other new members have yet to be revealed.
Born on December 3, 1996, Mainam hails from Imphal, Manipur, India. He started his martial arts training with wrestling in 2005.
Currently, Mainam holds a professional MMA record of 3 wins and 2 losses. He competed mostly in Super Fight League and he has yet to face a non-Indian opponent in the cage.
As an MMA fighter, Mainam has been competing professionally since November 5, 2016. In his debut, he submitted Xico Zorin Mawiia via rear-naked choke at “JSJ Fight League 3” at the Mizoram University Multipurpose Hall in Aizawl, Mizoram, India.
On February 5, 2017, Mainam submitted Pramod Kataria via rear-naked choke at “SFL 2017: Battle of the Bold- U.P. Nawabs vs Haryana Sultans” at the Squash and Badminton Courts Siri Fort in Delhi, India. On February 17, 2018, Mainam knocked out Ateet Kelvin “The Face” Gupta at the SFL Arena in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
The only fighter to defeat Mainam was Kantharaj Shankar Agasa. The former lost to the latter at “SFL 2017: Close Quarter Combat- Haryana Sultans vs Sher-E-Punjab” on January 29, 2017 at the Squash and Badminton Courts Siri Fort and during their rematch at “SFL 2018: Northern Rivals- Sher-E-Punjab vs. Haryana Sultans” on March 2, 2018 at the Famous Studios in Mumbai.
