The Bee was one of the four mystery celebrity contestants who performed on “The Masked Singer” Season 1 episode 6 titled “Touchy Feely Clues,” which aired on Fox on February 6, 2019. She competed against the Raven, the Peacock and the Monster.
During the group number, the four contestants sang “I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas. Produced by David Guetta, the song was released as the second single of The Black Eyed Peas’ fifth album titled “The E.N.D.”
During the solo performances, the Bee was the first to perform. She performed “Wrecking Ball,” the second single of Miley Cyrus’s fourth studio album titled “Bangerz.”
RCA Records released “Wrecking Ball” on August 25, 2013. It was written by Maureen Anne “Mozella” McDonald, Stephan Moccio, Sacha Skarbek, Kiyanu Kim, Lukasz Gottwald and Henry Russell Walter.
Before performing “Wrecking Ball,” the Bee said she has been performing since the 1950s as she had mentioned in previous episodes. According to her, her mother told her to form a girl group when she was 8 years old and it has been “peaches and marmalade ever since” she got a recording contract.
Panelists Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy were impressed by the Bee’s performance of “Wrecking Ball.” Thicke said the singer behind the mask is definitely Gladys Knight, who recently sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.
Throughout the Bee’s performance of “Wrecking Ball,” she did not move much around the stage but her vocals were so powerful both Thicke and McCarthy became emotional. Scherzinger said the singer behind the mask could be Knight based on the way the masked singer held the microphone.
Each contestant had to bring one object as a clue to his or her identity. The Bee brought a bakeware set, which she said was her second favorite thing to do.
Based on the item, McCarthy said the Bee could be Patti LaBelle while Jeong said she could be Anita Baker. Scherzinger added Chaka Khan as one of the guesses.
In the end, it was the Raven who received the lowest number of votes from the audience and the judges. She unmasked herself and was revealed to be talk show host and actress Ricki Lake.
