Reigning Brave Combat Federation Lightweight Champion Abdul-Kareem “Pride of Palestine” Al-Selwady, 23, of Jordan is set to defend his title for the first time. He will be challenged by Luan “Miau” Santiago, 24, of Brazil in the 23rd event of the Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion that will take place in Amman, Jordan on April 19, 2019.

“Brave 23” marks the second time Brave CF is holding an event in Jordan. It will be Santiago’s fifth time to compete in the promotion while it will be Al-Selwady’s sixth outing.

When Santiago made his Brave CF debut at “Brave 3: Battle in Brazil” at the Max Rosenmann Arena in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil on March 18, 2017, he knocked out Ivan “Choko” Castillo, 28, of Mexico. The former knocked out his former Brazilian fighter Igor Soares, 38, at “Brave 8: The Rise of Champions” at the Taruma Gymnasium in Curitiba.

On April 13, 2018, Santiago competed for the Interim Brave CF Lightweight Championship title at “Brave 11” at the Mineirao Stadium’s Terrace in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil but he lost to his fellow Brazilian fighter Lucas “Mineiro” Martins, 30. It was Santiago’s first loss in Brave CF.

Santiago redeemed himself on November 16, 2018 at “Brave 18” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain where defeated Djamil “Dynamite” Chan, 28, of the Netherlands via unanimous decision. It improved the Brazilian fighter’s professional MMA record to 13 wins and 3 losses.

On the other hand, Al-Selwady currently has 10 wins and 1 loss. His only professional MMA loss was on December 15, 2014 when he was knocked out by Aziz Julaidan, 24, of Switzerland at “Desert Force 14: Al Academiya 2 Finale” at the Fighting Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Al-Selwady defeated all of his five previous opponents in Brave CF. He submitted Rami “Raminator” Aziz, 27, of Sweden at “Brave 1: The Beginning” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena on September 23, 2016.

The Jordanian fighter knocked out Michael “Maicon D” Deiga-Scheck, 33, of Germany at “Brave 4: Unstoppable” at the IPIC Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on March 31, 2017 and Erick “Indio Brabo” da Silva, 30, of Brazil at “Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena on November 17, 2017. Charlie Leary, 35, of England lost to the Jordanian fighter via unanimous decision at “Brave 10: The Kingdom Rises” at the Prince Hamzah Sporting Hall in Amman on March 2, 2018.

On November 16, 2018, Al-Selwady became the new Brave CF Lightweight Champion by knocking out Martins at “Brave 18.” Prior to this, the division’s inaugural champion Ottman Azaitar was stripped of his belt due to his failure to defend his title.

Prior to “Brave 23,” Brave CF will hold “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” on March 15, 2019 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines where Brave CF Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines is defending his title for the third time.
