The Rabbit was one of the five mystery celebrity singers who performed in “The Masked Singer” Season 1 episode 8 titled “Semi Finals: Double Unmasking,” which aired on February 20, 2019 on Fox. He competed against the Monster, the Lion, the Peacock and the Bee.
As a guest panelist, Kenan Thompson joined resident panels Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger and host Nick Cannon in “Semi Finals: Double Unmasking.” The Rabbit was the fourth to perform.
In the previous episodes, the Rabbit sang songs from as many different genres as possible to throw the panel off his real identity, which also effectively proved how versatile he is as a performer. Viewers learned that he loves fishing and whenever he is under pressure, he packs up the family and heads to the mountains going “Step by Step,” which made McCarthy wonder if he was a member of New Kids on the Block.
By mentioning Chicken of the Sea, the Rabbit wanted the audience to think he could be Nick Lachey. When the masked singer sang “My Girl” by The Temptations, he sounded great but he did not sound like the lead singer of 98 Degrees.
Released on December 21, 1964, “My Girl” was included on the 1965 album of The Temptations titled “The Temptations Sing Smokey.” It was co-written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White.
While the Rabbit was performing “My Girl,” McCarthy said Lance Bass of NSYNC was a good possibility. Images of the female contestants of the show including the Poodle, the Unicorn, the Raven, the Alien, the Bee and the Lion were flashed on his background screen one by one.
“I’m very optimistic,” the Rabbit said after performing “My Girl.” “When I put my mind to something it’s always 110 percent. Believe it or not, I have done some other work in a costume before, in other places. I’m used to being in it, but never singing.”
McCarthy wondered if the Rabbit was her husband Donnie Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block. Thompson still guessed Lachey while Scherzinger Nicole guesses Joey Fatone of NSYNC and Jeong guessed Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys.
