Award-winning actor Kristoffer King passes away

Award-winning Filipino actor Christopher Reyes, who is professionally known as Kristoffer King, was rushed to the intensive care unit on February 23, 2019 and passed away on the same day. He was 36.

King was admitted at the Adventist Medical Center Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. His sister Kristina Reyes Saldanha took to Facebook to ask for help sharing a now-deleted photo of the actor in the ICU.

Details about the cause of King’s death have yet to be confirmed but he was reportedly sent to the hospital after his heart stopped beating for five minutes. The actor is said to be diabetic and he suffered from heartburn, infection, pneumonia and sciatica.

Born on May 22, 1982, King appeared in several films by 2009 Cannes Film Festival Best Director Brillante Mendoza. The first one was “Masahista” (The Masseur), which was released in 2005.

In 2007, King starred in two films by Mendoza, namely “Foster Child” and “Tirador.” The actor co-starred with Coco Martin in the latter.

In 2008, King and Martin reunited in Mendoza’s “Serbis” (Service), the first film of the director to compete in Cannes Film Festival. The two actors also co-starred in the director’s “Captive” in 2012.

Mendoza took to Facebook to pay tribute to King. The director referred to the late actor as his “best actor.”

In 2016, King starred in Mendoza’s “Ma’Rosa” and played Alwyn Recio in the ABS-CBN series “Ang Probinsiyano,” which stars Martin as Ricardo Dalisay. In 2018, King appeared in GMA series “Inday Will Always Love You” and “The Stepdaughters.”
