Rodrigo Duterte has nothing but praises for Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation. The Philippine president recently met His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who is in the Philippines to oversee the final preparations for “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.”
Al Khalifa, the founder of Brave CF, is known for his sports advocacy. The Bahraini prince is a mixed martial artist himself.
Featuring 10 MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” will take place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019 marking the first ever Brave CF event to take place in the country. When Duterte and Al Khalifa met one week prior to the fight night, they discussed the friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
“We are very proud of our close links with the Kingdom of Bahrain, which has developed through the years,” Duterte stated. “Your Highness’s visit opens new horizons for collaboration between both countries and serves for the development of our ties. Hosting ‘Brave 22’ is part of our cooperation in supporting a promotion which is making its way towards the global stage.”
An advocate for change through sport, Al Khalifa hopes to have MMA and Brave CF as key components to strengthening the bond between the Bahrain and the Philippines and looks forward to the benefits it will bring to both countries. He and Duterte discussed the promotion’s role in the development of MMA in the Philippines over the next few weeks and the further development of the relationship between both countries.
Duterte praised the efforts put forth by Brave CF. Al Khalifa thanked the Philippine president for his words of support and praised the relationship between Bahrain and the Philippines while looking forward to further development through MMA and the promotion.
Among the 20 MMA fighters competing at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors,” 11 are Filipinos. In the main event, Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France will challenge reigning Brave Combat Federation Bantamweight Champion Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23, of the Philippines.
