Founded by Mark Sangiao, Team Lakay believes that being a champion is not a luck a person is born with but it is something one has to train hard for. This is the lodestar of the team’s mixed martial artists including Brave Combat Federation Bantamweight Stephen “The Sniper” Loman, 23.

In an exclusive interview, I asked Loman about the reminder that Sangiao always gives him. The Brave CF champ said his mentor advises him to always remember the Team Lakay motto.

“There’s a quote that goes, ‘Champions are not born, they are made,”’ Loman told me. “So all we have to do is to develop ourselves every time through training everyday if there’s a coming fight. We are studying our opponents, just train, train hard, and study your opponent and then (when it’s time to) fight, do your best to fight. It’s how he (Sangiao) keeps me motivated.”

Loman is the youngest reigning champion of Brave CF. He is also the champion of the Bahrain-based MMA promotion with the most successful title defenses with two.

On November 17, 2017, Loman became the inaugural Brave CF Bantamweight Champion at “Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions” at the Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, Bahrain. He knocked out Gurdashan “Saint Lion” Mangat, 32, of Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada.

On June 9, 2018, Loman successfully defended his belt  at “Brave 13: Europe Evolution” at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He defeated Frans “The Black Mamba” Mlambo, 27, of Dublin, Ireland via unanimous decision in a rematch.

On November 16, 2018, Loman returned to the Khalifa Sports City Arena. He successfully defended his title again through a unanimous decision win against Felipe Efrain, 24, of Sao Paolo, Brazil at “Brave 18: Bahrain.”

For the third time, Loman will defend his title on March 15, 2019 this time in his home country. In the main event of “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines, he will be challenged by former Brave CF Featherweight Champion Elias “Smile” Boudegzdame, 25, of France.
