Philippines’ Jayson Margallo earns 1st Brave CF win at ‘Brave 22: Storm of Warriors’

Representing the Philippines, Jayson “Oragon” Margallo, 24was one of the winners at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors.” It was his first victory and first bout in Bahrain-based mixed martial arts promotion Brave Combat Federation.

Featuring nine MMA bouts, “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on March 15, 2019. In the fourth bout of the evening, Margallo faced his fellow Filipino fighter Rex “T-Rex” de Lara, 36, in the bantamweight division with Thomas Fan as the referee.

In the first round, De Lara immediately went for a takedown and worked from top position. He locked in a guillotine but Margallo managed to pull out of the hoke.

Margallo and de Lara were equally dominant in a grappling battle in the second round. In the third round, Margallo was more dominant.

After three five-minute rounds, the bantamweight contest between Margallo and de Lara was left in the hands of the judges. The first judge scored the bout 30-27, the second judge scored it 29-28 and the third judge scored it 29-27 all in favor of Margallo.

Winning via unanimous decision, Margallo is now riding a two-bout winning streak. He and de Lara made their Brave CF debut at “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors,” which is the first ever Brave CF event to be held in the Philippines.

As an amateur fighter, Margallo had 2 wins and 1 loss. He made his professional MMA debut in 2015.

Before “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors,” Margallo earned a rear-naked choke submission victory against Mohd Rashiddin Hamsa of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. They faced each other at “Big3 MMA Productions Cage Wars: Battle in Legazpi” in Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi, Albay, Philippines on August 18, 2018.

Including Margallo and de Lara, 11 Filipino fighters were on the “Brave 22: Storm of Warriors” card. The other countries represented in the first ever Brave CF event in the Philippines were Bahrain, Finland, France, India, Ireland, New Zealand and Pakistan.
