Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, 34, of Miami, Florida, United States and Leon “Rocky” Edwards, 27, of Erdington, Birmingham, England were the respective winners of the main event and co-main event of “UFC Fight Night 147.” The two were involved in a brawl after the event that took place at The 02 Arena in London, England on March 16, 2019.
Masvidal was having a post-fight interview backstage with mixed martial artist-turned-MMA analyst Laura “Fancy” Sanko, 36, of Kansas City, Missouri, USA when he saw Edwards. Leaving the interview, Masvidal approached Edwards and gave the English fighter a five-piece punching combination.
Edwards tried to retaliate but the group of men in the area quickly stopped the commotion. The Ultimate Fighting Championship has yet to release a statement about the incident.
“UFC Fight Night 147” featured 12 MMA bouts. In the co-main event of the evening, Edwards competed in the welterweight division against Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson, 30, of Reykjavik, Iceland.
Edwards won via split decision. It was his ninth victory in the UFC.
In the main event, Masvidal also competed in the welterweight division. He knocked out Darren “The Gorilla” Till, 26, of Liverpool, Merseyside, England in the second round.
The welterweight match between Masvidal and Till was declared the Fight of the Night. The Performance of the Night bonuses were given to Masvidal and Dan “Dynamite” Ige, 27, of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, who submitted Danny “The Hatchet” Henry, 30, of Edinburgh, Scotland via rear-naked choke in the featherweight division.
Including the U.S., England, Iceland and Scotland, a total of 11 countries were represented at “UFC Fight Night 147.” The other countries represented were Brazil, Ireland, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Switzerland and Wales.
Masvidal is currently number 12 in the UFC welterweight rankings while Edwards is number 11. The reigning UFC Welterweight Champion is Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman, 31, of Auchi, Nigeria.
