Mei Yamaguchi earns 4th ONE Championship win at ‘ONE: A New Era’ in Tokyo, Japan

It was a hometown victory for Japanese mixed martial arts veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi, 36. She was one of the winners at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019 marking her fourth victory in ONE Championship.

“ONE: A New Era” featured 11 MMA bouts and four ONE Super Series matches, which include two kickboxing contests and two Muay Thai contests. In the fourth bout of the evening, Yamaguchi faced Kseniya “The Tigress” Lachkova, 23, of Russia in an MMA match in the women’s atomweight division with Kemp Cheng as the referee.

Cheng put a stop to the atomweight contest after 3 minutes and 18 seconds in the third round. Yamaguchi submitted Lachkova via armbar.

Winning at “ONE: A New Era” improved Yamaguchi’s professional MMA record to 19 wins, 11 losses and 1 draw. On the other hand, Lachkova now has 10 wins and 3 losses.

Born in Tokyo, Yamaguchi is a former Valkyrie Featherweight Champion and a former DEEP Jewels Featherweight Grand Prix Champion. She is currently training out of Riki Gym, Gods and HybridFighter.

“ONE: A New Era” marked Yamaguchi’s seventh ONE Championship bout. She is now riding a three-bout winning streak.

Including Japan and Russia, 19 countries were represented at “ONE: A New Era,” which is the first ever ONE Championship event to take place in Japan. The other countries represented were Australia, Brazil, China, Cyprus, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.

Yamaguchi was one of the six fighters who represented Japan at “ONE: A New Era.” Lachkova solely represented Russia.
