ONE Championship fans are witnesses to the exemplary friendship between Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 29, of Australia and Vietnam and “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, 33, of Myanmar. The two Asian mixed martial arts superstars are currently in the Philippines for “ONE: Roots of Honor.”

Featuring two Muay Thai matches, two kickboxing contests and 12 mixed martial arts bouts, “ONE: Roots of Honor” took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on April 12, 2019. Nguyen successfully defended his belt against former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag “Tungaa” Jadambaa, 43, of Mongolia in the main event of the evening.

Before going to the Philippines for “ONE: Roots of Honor,” Nguyen had his training camp at Hard Knocks 365 in Fort Lauderdale in Florida, United States with Aung and “The Dragon Leg” Tial Thang, 25, of Myanmar. Nguyen also trained with Greg Jones, Kami Barzini and Chrysler de Castro.

“This camp has been a very grueling camp,” Nguyen said during his “ONE: Roots of Honor” post-fight cage interview with Mitch Chilson. “I’ve sacrificed so much. I wanna dedicate this victory to my man, Aung La N Sang, to Tial Thang, Henri Hooft, if you’re watching, I love you, Coach! Aung and I have the same coach but… I love you, Greg Jones, Kami Barzini and the main man, Chrysler de Castro.”

“Look, I came out and I said what I was gonna do,” Martin continued. “Jadambaa, many would say they would fight him but when it comes to the crunch, no one would come down and bite it. This is my division. That’s it. Bottom line.”

“ONE: Roots of Honor” marked Nguyen’s second successful title defense as the reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion. The victory improved his professional MMA record to 12 wins and 3 losses.

Prior to “ONE: Roots of Honor,” Nguyen was in Japan to support Aung. The Burmese fighter successfully defended his ONE Middleweight World Championship belt against Ken Hasegawa, 32, of Japan at “ONE: A New Era” at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 2019.
