Abdul-Kareem “Pride of Palestine” Al-Selwady, 23, of Jordan will defend his Brave Combat Federation Lightweight Championship title at “Brave 23: Pride and Honor.” The challenger has been confidently declaring that he would finish the Palestinian mixed martial artist.
Luan “Miau” Santiago, 24, of Brazil will challenge Al-Selwady in one of the two co-main events of “Brave 23: Pride and Honor,” which will take place at the Martyr Rashid Al-Ziyoud Hall Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan on April 19, 2019. The Brazilian challenger has not shied away from saying that he can take out the Jordanian titleholder.
“I see that Luan likes to talk a lot, saying that he’s hungry for the championship but I’m not your average champion,” Al-Selwady said. “I don’t feel like I did everything I wanted to do. I’m still hungry, hungrier than every other fighter.”
“Even though I’m the champion, I’m hungry to stay as champion,” Al-Selwady continued. “Luan thinks he’s going to finish me, and that actually makes me very happy. I love when my opponents think they’re stronger than me and are so confident. To me, that’s a weakness they’re showing me.”
Coming back to Jordan as a champion is a special experience for Al-Selwady. The last time he fought in his hometown was at “Brave 10,” which took place at the Prince Hamzah Sports Hall in Amman on March 2, 2018.
“It always feels great fighting in my hometown,” Al-Selwady shared. “This is where I started my career. It’s always a great atmosphere as my friends and family are here too.”
“I’m coming back home to defend my title in front of my people and this is a very special night for me,” Al-Selwady continued. “First, because I don’t ever want to lose, I always want to win. Friday night will be special because I’ve had the longest fight camp ever.”
On November 16, 2018, Al-Selwady became the new Brave CF Lightweight Champion by defeating Lucas “Mineiro” Martins, 30, of Brazil at “Brave 18” at the Khalifa Sports City Anrea in Manama, Bahrain. The Jordanian champ noted, “I didn’t stop training from my last fight in November because I know that, as a champion, there will always be challengers trying to take my title.”
