Fighting out of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia, Shamil “Abrek” Abdurakhimov, 37, was one of the winners at “UFC Fight Night 149.” It was his fifth victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Featuring 11 mixed martial arts matches, “UFC Fight Night 149” took place at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia on April 20, 2019. In the fifth bout of the evening, Abdurakhimov faced Marcin “Tybur” Tybura, 33, of Uniejow, Poland in the heavyweight division.

Herb Dean served as the referee. He put a stop to the heavyweight contest after 3 minutes and 15 seconds when Abdurakhimov knocked out Tybura via punches.

Winning at “UFC Fight Night 149” improved Abdurakhimov’s professional MMA record to 20 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Tybura now has 17 wins and 5 losses.

At “UFC Fight Night 149,” Abdurakhimov was one of the 10 hometown heroes who competed while Tybura was one of the three representatives of Poland. Brazil, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, the Netherlands, Peru, South Korea and the U.S. were also represented.

Born in Kuyada, Gunibsky District, Makhachkala on September 2, 1981, Abdurakhimov started his training in Sanshou and freestyle wrestling in primary school. As an MMA fighter, he has been competing professionally since 2008.

Abdurakhimov joined the UFC in 2015. Before facing Tybura at “UFC Fight Night 149,” the Dagestani MMA fighter defeated four opponents in the promotion namely Anthony “Freight Train” Hamilton, 39, of Newcastle, Washington, USA, Walt “The Big Ticket” Harris, 35, of Homewood, Alabama, USA, Chase “Vanulla Gorilla” Sherman, 29, of D’Iberville, Mississippi, USA and Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski, 40, of Chicago, Illinois, USA.

On February 21, 2016, Abdurakhimov defeated Hamilton via unanimous decision at “UFC Fight Night 83” at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. On November 1, 2016, the Dagestani fighter defeated Harris via split decision at “UFC Fight Night 96” at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, USA.

On November 25, 2017, Abdurakhimov knocked out Sherman via punches at “UFC Fight Night 122” at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. On September 15, 2018, the Makhachkala native defeated Arlovski via unanimous decision at “UFC Fight Night 136” at the Olimiyskiy Arena in Moscow, Russia.
