Full-time attorney Cheslie Corrinne Kryst, 28, will represent the United States in Miss Universe 2019. She is the 66th woman from her country to compete in the international beauty pageant.
Born on April 28, 1991 in Charlotte, North Carolina to a Polish American father an African American mother, USA, Kryst attended Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina and Fort Mill High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina. She earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing and human resource management from the Darla Moore School of Business in Columbia, South Carolina in 2013.
In 2016, Kryst competed in Miss North Carolina USA 2017. She was the fourth runner-up.
Representing Metrolina, Kryst competed in Miss North Carolina USA 2018 and finished in the Top 10 in 2017. In the same year, she graduated with a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In 2018, Kryst was crowned Miss North Carolina USA 2019. On May 2, 2019, she became the third woman from North Carolina to win Miss USA and the oldest woman to win the title.
Hosted by Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey, the Miss USA 2019 coronation night was held at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, USA. Runner-up to Kryst was Alejandra Gonzalez of New Mexico while Triana Browne of Oklahoma was second runner-up.
Licensed to practice law in both North Carolina and South Carolina, Kryst is practicing complex civil litigation for a private law firm and she does pro bono work to reduce sentences for people who were sentenced unjustly. She took on a one-year leave of absence from her law career to fulfill her duties as Miss USA 2019.
If Kryst wins Miss Universe 2019, she will become the ninth candidate from the U.S. to win the crown.The first eight titleholders were following Miriam Stevenson, Carol Morris, Linda Bement, Sylvia Hitchcock, Shawn Weatherly, Chelsi Smith, Brook Lee and Olivia Culpo, who were crowned in 1945, 1956, 1960, 1967, 1980, 1995, 1997 and 2012, respectively.
The reigning Miss Universe 2018 is Catriona Gray, 25, of the Philippines. She is the fourth woman from her country to win the crown.
