Fighting out of Walworth, London, United Kingdom, Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, 21, is the new ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion. He earned the title at “ONE: For Honor,” which marked his second victory in ONE Championship’s striking-only league ONE Super Series.

Featuring 10 mixed martial arts matches and four ONE Super Series contests, which are four Muay Thai bouts, “ONE: For Honor” took place at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 4, 2019. In the main event, Haggerty challenged then reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, 34, of Buriram, Thailand.

Atsushi Onari served as the referee. Jonathan Lai, Ian Cartwright and Olivier Coste served as the judges.

After five three-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Onari raised the hand of Haggerty, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

In Haggerty’s post-fight interview in the ring, he was asked by Dominic Lau who he wanted to fight next in ONE Super Series. The new ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion said he wanted to face “The Iron Man” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, 31, of Thailand next.

Winning at “ONE: For Honor” improved the Muay Thai record of Haggerty to 15 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Sam-a now has 366 wins, 47 losses, 9 draws.

While Sam-A was one of the two fighters who represented Thailand at “ONE: For Honor,” Haggerty solely represented England. Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Russia, Scotland, South Korea and the United States were also represented.

Haggerty has been competing professionally since he was 9 years old. He was an International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) Super-Featherweight World Champion and a Roar Combat League World Champion.

“ONE: For Honor” marked Haggerty’s second ONE Super Series outing. When he made his promotional debut at “ONE: Eternal Glory” at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 19, 2019, he defeated Joseph “The Hurricane” Lasiri, 27, of Milan, Italy.
